Family Update

FOR-UPDATE
Feels like it has been a while. It has, but while some things change, other things remain the same.

It is April  and if you look outside the window now, you ought to see the sun. There are a lot of plans in the works and as the sun is put, it can only get better. None of this moody weather and wet floors. Although wet floors isn’t that bad, but a nice warm day in the park is nice, no?
There are going to be skating events coming up as well as the usual weekly skating extravaganza you usually get.

So first things first with the update:

In London, there are a few places to skate:-

Vauxhall’s Renaissance Rooms which is a night which is on weekly from Thursday Night to Saturday Night. If you are confused about the nights and what times they run until especially if your interested in the kids skate, please seak their website: Roller Disco – Remember, bookings for Birthdays and hen nights can be done here.

Wembley’s Silverspoons which is a night which is on weekly on a Tuesday Night from 8pm until 12am. There is a Facebook page so you can keep up with the info and to also pay closer attention to the children’s skate which they also do on the last Saturday of each month. Please seek their website for any other information required. UK Roller Disco – Remember, bookings for Birthdays and hen nights can also be done here or via the Facebook page.

Newham’s Skating Heaven which is a periodic night which happens each month wit events such as Gospel Nights and FlashBaak. There is a Facebook page so you can keep up with all the latest info regarding these excellent nights and also a website for more information. Skating Heaven – Remember, bookings for Birthdays and hen nights can be booked through here.

In terms of the updates, this is really it for venues. Some of these you already know and some you may have heard or may not know a lot of information about. However, they ARE out there. There is always a place to Skate in London.

Luton’s RollBack organisers are responsible for various weekly events for over 18’s, under 18’s and children. There is a page on Facebook so that you can keep updated with all the latest events or a website for all the latest info. RollBack Skating – Remember for any bookings, please use these avenues for further info.

With that said, as it is getting brighter and hopefully, a lot warmer, we encourage skating in parks and also getting your practice on. Places you can go to Skate are usually local Parks. However, if you are looking for experience or even inspiration, make sure you go down to Hyde Park on a sunny Sunday and bask in the beauty of Roller Skating.

This will be all for now…stay tuned.

Not the End of an Era

I’m not sure if any of you have heard, but there will be no more skating events held by Wheels In Motion & Silverspoons Roller Disco.

The two factions that organise these two events, Supreme Skaters Elite & Darren ‘Sweetness’ Louis joint with Kai Philip have recently annouced on FB that there will be no more events from them until further notice.

Why? I’m sure they have their reasons.

When? Effective immediately.

Will there be a Last Skating Event? Yes!!!

Now this doesn’t mean the end of skating because Renaissance Rooms will be available to skate at. Roller Motion will still have their event at Renaissance Rooms on the first Sunday of the Month, Newham Leisure Centre will still have their periodic events and I’m sure there will still be people/skaters skating at Blue Square, Stradford Shopping Centre, Hyde, Dulwich and Battersea Park.
With this said, there will still be other skating events, so if you love skating like we do, then stay tuned to this site as we will let you know what is happening and when.

If you love skating, you will skate regardless of where and when, so don’t let this feel like this is the end of an era because it isn’t.

The Scattering of Ashes

Attention All Skaters: PSA:- The Scattering of Tayaran’s Ashes has been rescheduled for Today at 2pm as it is a nice, bright and sunny for the best part, as well as a brilliant day to remember and pay respects to a Skating Legend.

Outside does look a little fresh so if you choose not to bring your skaters, bring your hoodies and warm items of clothing. If you bring your skates, I’m sure a few of us will be basking in the bright sunny day as it is here.

Lisa has confirmed that she will bring music so you know there are going to be good vibes.

If you have a Legend tee, it would be nice if you wore it or brought it along and I guess there is nothing else more to say but, be safe, see you there and lets have a good time remembering a the Legend which was Tayaran Robinson.

R.I.P Tayaran ‘Legend’ Robinson

Rolling along in Hyde Park, to designing and producing Skate Clothing and also blogging, The Rollerz have blogged and will continue to blog and I must say that I personally do not want to do this again. I’ve been putting this off for 3 days but I wouldn’t be a skater and not doing this would go against everything The Rollerz Stand for in the Skating scene. We love it and have love for it as much as other skaters who share the same interest and level of desire for the Sport. With that said…I am the bearer of sad news.

For what you could say is coming up to 3 years now, Tayaran Robinson was struck with MND and like the Legend he was, continues skating until he couldn’t physically skate no more. However, this did not hinder Tayaran from going to skate venues. Yes, he had no wheels to skate in, but he later had a chair and joined us on the arena floor. Not the same as 4 wheels, but showed his dedication, showed his love and passion for an art a lot of people  do and a lot of people would like to take up.

A lot of the new school skaters met Tayaran in a chair and didn’t get to see him skate. But from pictures and video’s I can assure you, Tayaran skated like those skates were permanently attached to his feet. Effortless great at the Art not to mention the Jam Skating.

I won’t go into any more because I’m sure you all get the point that this guy was a Legend and still is. May he live on forever as London’s Legend and from The Rollerz on behalf of the Family of Rollerz we pray he rests eternally in peace and keep Jam Skating in Heaven

Summer’s Here…OK I’m Lying!

You’d wake up in the morning for work and it is dark outside. You’d go to work and when it is home time, it is dark outside. But it is getting brighter and warmer. No, not summer heat, but it’s … Continue reading

London Skate is BACK…TOMORROW!!!

London Skate is BACK!!!

As there is a lot of info, I will quote the info.

“This Wednesday 20th April 2011 (Tomorrow) the LondonSkate season opener will be departing from the Bandstand on Serpentine Road in Hyde Park and heading towards Camden, the traditional first route of the season.

As always route and weather call information is published before the skate at http://www.londonskate.com/, but with this Wednesday’s weather forecast currently set at 24 degrees and sunny things are… already looking good. Yes it’s England, yes the forecast can change at the drop of a hat, but let’s live in the moment – in this particular moment it’s looking like a fantastic evening of skating shall be had!

A reminder then of how the LondonSkate weather call system works – there are three possible calls:

* GREEN – which means the weather looks great and we’re going skating with music!

* RED – which means the weather is dire and nobody’s going skating, gosh darn it!

* AMBER – which means we might be skating, but without music. An AMBER weather call means people will go to the park and if it’s dry when they arrive they will skate. It also means the music bike is cancelled. The bike electronics don’t like rain and if the risk of rain is judged too high then the bike stays home. AMBER means take your chances, if you’ve got nothing else on and could do with a night in the pub in the worst case then come on out to play!

Here’s hoping for a nice big fat GREEN start to the season. Keep an eye on LondonSkate.com come Wednesday evening and we sincerely hope to see you out helping us return the ruckass to London’s streets!

Bring it!”

So, as you’ve read, it’s going to be great and you will have a great time on the route, skating with a bunch of skaters also dancing to music.

Make sure you make this street skate, it’s going to be great.
